When the Bible instructs us to take heed, or listen to something, the emphasis is upon our attitude toward what we’ve heard as well as our response.  In this study of King David’s life, one of the voices David heard loudly was Goliath. “I am the Philistine champion, but you are only the servants of Saul… I defy the armies of Israel today!  Send me a man who will fight me!” (1 Samuel 17:8-11). The Bible goes on to tell us that, “When Saul and the Israelites heard this, they were terrified and deeply shaken.”  But David’s response was different—Why?
David put more stock in what God said about him than what Goliath said about him!
Is there someone in your life who challenges you in a negative way, someone who demeans you or calls you out to bait you into a fight? Maybe you’re frustrated because they seem stronger than you or have a position of authority over you.  
Just as David realized his real enemy was not Goliath, we must recognize that people are not our real problem—Satan is!  And the good news is that Jesus has defeated the enemy for us!
“Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.  Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places,” Ephesians 6:10-12.
