In this study of King David’s life, we’ll highlight seven voices, or influences, to which David responded.  Those same influences, or relationships, are present in our lives today!  How we respond to each voice shapes our character and determines our position—hopefully to be where God has designed—in the right place at the right time!
The first voice we’ll study is David’s father who seemingly asked David to do an ordinary, mundane task.  David could have dismissed his father’s request in pursuit of a more lofty endeavor but he humbled himself and obeyed.  This simple act of obedience catapulted a shepherd boy into his next role as warrior and champion!
When the Bible instructs us to take heed, or listen to something, the emphasis is upon our attitude toward what we’ve heard as well as our response.  God wants us to pay close attention to, yield to, follow and obey His Word—willingly!  “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8 NKJV
