Listen "Deep Dive: Soil Carbon Measurement, Management, and Marketplaces"
Episode Synopsis
Healthy soil is at the root of food quality and yield, and soil carbon is a key component of healthy soil. In fact, as the main component of soil organic matter, it is carbon that gives soil its water-retention capacity, its structure and its fertility. Interest in understanding and measuring soil carbon has increased not only as a means of improved agricultural outcomes, but to also potentially store significant quantities of atmospheric carbon in the fight against climate change. In turn, opportunities to build markets around soil carbon offsets have gained momentum. But in order for all the benefits of improved soil carbon storage to be realized, a deeper understanding of how to measure, manage & standardize it is needed. It is time for new solutions. In this episode, we will discuss the future of soil carbon and the options available to measure and manage this precious resource, as well as the marketplace solutions that might offer a solution going forward.
