This is part 1 of a series entitled Food in African American Literature. In Part 1 Fred talks about the relationship of the field to his earlier research and publications. Dr. Frederick Douglass Opie earned a gold medal as a member of the 1990 US National Lacrosse Team. He is a professional speaker, Babson Professor of History and talking head contributing to stories journalist and documentary filmmakers produce. He shares his research interest and musings as a blogger and the producer and host of The Fred Opie Show.
