Listen "NBA player Kevin Huerter on working in silence, title hopes & remembering his roots."
Episode Synopsis
Fresh off a deep postseason run, my old point guard joins me for an honest conversation about the positives and negatives of NBA life. We also discuss how he makes financial decisions, the difficulties of "adulting," his work with Impact Athletic Center (35:40) and he even takes some questions from fans of the podcast, including how he met his girlfriend and the best defender he's ever faced (42:39).
Kevin Huerter is a 22-year-old guard for the NBA's Atlanta Hawks. After two seasons at Maryland, the Hawks drafted Kevin with the No. 19 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He is a 2016 graduate of Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, N.Y., where he helped lead the Plainsmen to a state title.

Memorable quotes:
"My high school friends are still people that I talk to daily...All of the people that used to cover me in high school, the media people, I try to talk to them over the course of the year and make sure they're treated the exact same and try not to let them get too far out of my life." -- Kevin on remembering his roots (16:25).
"As a professional player, as anyone who's working in the world, you have a contract. You gotta show up to work and that contract at some point runs out and it's how can you get the next contract? And for me, that next contract is coming up. And so that's something that's always on my mind." -- Kevin on factors that motivate him to get better (18:22).
"The tough part about being an NBA player is that there's very little balance in your life." -- Kevin on the grind of the NBA season (23:25).
"If there's one thing you need to do in sports, you need to get to a playoff game at MSG. It's the craziest atmosphere I've ever been in." -- Kevin on facing the Knicks in the playoffs (28:06).
