Listen "10 x 10 Kevin Moore on the Ladybird Book of Football"
Episode Synopsis
In our 10 x 10 series where 10 writers talk for 10 minutes about their favourite football books, Dr Kevin Moore, the former director of the National Football Museum, talks about the Ladybird Story of Football. Ladybird Books, first published in 1914, were an entry level for young British and Irish readers across a range of subjects, from folk tales to science and scholarship. Kevin talks about how this slim volume, with beautiful illustrations, awakened a love of football in him around the same time as England won the World Cup in 1966. Our conversation broadens out into a discussion into what football museums and archives should be collecting in the age of Facebook, Twitter and social media.
