Episode Synopsis

How to better understand what goes on in our brain and what you can do to have greater levels of wellbeing in your life.  Understanding the Sympathetic & Parasympathetic nervous systems. If you are always in ‘go, go, go’ mode, you are more likely to burn out. You need to rest regularly during the day to activate the parasympathetic nervous system.  Accessing your pre-frontal cortex in terms of stress – not letting the amygdala take over by over-focusing on fear. Often deep breathing is enough to access the prefrontal cortex.  Mastering emotions – noticing where they happen in the body, how they manifest, and being in tune with the emotions.  Always have an inner camera that is checking: how you are feeling, what are you thinking, how are you breathing – so that you are in tune with yourself. This is a powerful way to stay aligned with what matters to you – it is sometimes referred to as self-regulation.  Understanding the brain can be useful to better access wellbeing – but also no amount of neuroscientific jargon will ever be enough if you don’t practice some of this directly. Some tools, such as: breathwork, meditation, regular breaks – can have a huge impact on your wellbeing (and you don’t need to know all the names of the brain for that!)
