Listen "Find Your Purpose with Ikigai"
Episode Synopsis
If you're seeking your purpose or even just a little more fulfillment in your work and career, look no further than Ikigai.
Ikigai is a Japanese word that means a reason for being. After I read the book Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles back in 2020, I was a little skeptical that a simple exercise could point me in a direction in my own career. Boy was I wrong. In fact, it's this exercise that unlocked next steps for many of my clients when they were feeling lost and stuck in their careers.
By asking yourself what you are good at, what you love, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for, you can navigate closer to finding your purpose, even if it's just your purpose for this moment in your life.
Tune in to also learn about 4 myths or misconceptions many individuals have about Ikigai.
Your One Thing this Week
Create your very own Ikigai. Grab a sheet of paper and draw 4 concentric circles that overlap in the center. Label them “what you love”, “what you’re good at”, “what the world needs”, and “what you can be paid for”. Fill in the circles with what you know today and brainstorm what could lie at the heart of your Ikigai.
