Listen "Revisiting Vietnam: Did We Get It Wrong?"
Episode Synopsis
For 50 years, the accepted narrative of the Vietnam War is one of futility, failure, and the limits of imperialism. Mark Moyar argues in his new book Triumph Regained: The Vietnam War, 1965-1968 that we have it all wrong. Using recently released evidence from Vietnam and digging deep into American archives as well, Moyar argues that the US pursued key national interests in defending South Vietnam -- and that we had all but won the war by the time Richard Nixon took office. I talk with Mark about his new perspective and what follows from it about history, the present, and the media.
