Trinity UCC has been putting on our Maafa services for over 10 years, as we celebrate Black History Month. Maafa is the Swahili word for "disaster, terrible occurrence or great tragedy." It speaks to the "continual, constant, complete, and total system of human negation and nullification" inflicted on Africans and Africans in diaspora. During Maafa, our worship services take us on a voyage through our historical and cultural linkages as we celebrate our people, our foods, our music, and our heritage.
