Known for his pioneering work in pulmonary function and small airway physiology, Professor Thompson has published extensively, including a book on lung function and over 180 peer-reviewed articles. He has led major research projects with over $35.9M AUD in competitive funding and has served as President of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand—the first non-medical professional to do so. A respected international leader, he co-chaired the ATS/ERS task force on global lung function standards.
