Episode Synopsis

A balance of silence and speech is necessary. Too much talking can lead to ineffective listening. Often when we talk too much, we fail to effectively listen and not just hear words, but understand the meaning of the conversation. Have you ever spoken to someone, and they look at you and say, Excuse me what did you just say? Or they say, sure, and they did not comprehend a word you said. As a working mother, it was not always easy to balance my time with my family and my work and still have time for self-care. My self-care always seemed to come last, and my prayer life was part of that self-care time. I would pray in the car running around taking the children where they needed to go. I thought that putting prayer on my schedule was offensive to God. I would pray when I could and figured God would understand. Don’t get me wrong I do think he understands and knows where our heart is. But imagine if God only half listened to our prayers or not at all. Anyway, I was participating in a training session and a military chapel came in to speak to us, I remember him saying that NO God would not be offended if you put prayer on your schedule, He would accept that with open arms. After that day, I added prayer time to my schedule, allowed a balance in my life. I further broke down that balance with conversation prayer and silent pray on the day that my mother passed away. I had no words in my most painful loss and had no words to tell God how much I was hurting, just sitting with him brought me more peace than had I had a conversation with him. I new then that I would rather just sit and listen that do the talking. How do you or can you balance your silence with God in your heart?
