Interior rest and harmony are found in silence. Cardinal Sarah provides beautiful examples of how the very outpouring of nature is done in silence from the baby’s womb to an underground river. As I sit in my prayer room reflecting on the reading for today, I glance at my statues of the many different saints in the quietness of this room. And each statue, without sayings word, brings to mind a story of how their lives continue to echo throughout the ages because of the presence of God. I imagine Saint Padre Pio or Saint John Vianny as they sit in the silence of the confessional as penitents approach and because of their own interior silence could see the souls of those seeking to reconcile with God. This is truly a harmony with God that cannot be found in the noise.
