Listen "25 - Lessons from Parenthood"
Episode Synopsis
On Christmas Day a few years ago I became a father for the first time and it truly was the greatest gift imaginable. We were lucky enough to have another baby since then, and I spend a significant part of every single day in awe of how great it all is. But it's possible that that's just the Stockholm syndrome and chronic sleep deprivation talking. In either case, I put the idea of reflecting upon the major lessons learned since becoming a parent up against some 20 other exotic topics for my patrons to vote upon, and this was a clear winner. The lessons broadly surround the transitions into parenthood are, the nature of control and expectation, managing competing priorities and the broader sweeping contextual changes of growing a family in the modern age.I believe it's an episode that has broader life philosophies at its core and will be interesting whether you are amongst those thinking about having kids; have kids of your own; or would simply never consider foregoing that much sleep. So thanks for joining me and please, strap in and enjoy!Chapters00:00 Intro and Context02:57 Major Lessons from Early Parenting12:46 The Role of Parents and Societal Changes17:52 Navigating Parenthood Across Generations22:21 The Impact of Community on Parenting24:52 Physical and Mental Transformations in Parenthood28:16 Embracing Individual Differences in Children31:05 Reprioritising Life Goals?34:29 Reflections on Challenges35:06 Thanks Patrons!Instagram: @chrisendreypodcastSupport: patreon.com/endrey
