Listen "Embracing Yourself as a Creator with Lisa Congdon"
Episode Synopsis
Every artist faces rejection and setbacks on the road to finding an appreciative and paying audience. Today, I wanted to share a couple lessons from a class I took from Lisa Congdon on becoming an artist... and while she specifically mentions art, her insights and tactics really apply to any creative endeavor. If you're not familiar with Lisa's work, she is a fine artist, illustrator and author. She is best known for her colorful paintings and hand lettering. She works for clients around the world including MoMA, REI, Harvard University, Martha Stewart Living, Chronicle Books, and Random House Publishing, among many others. You'll also be happy to know: The first step to embracing yourself as an artist or creator is believing you have something to offer the world. We all have fear. It's what you do with that fear that matters. Lisa talks about how to use fear to empower us to share and create And because our world is full of creative constraint, she sets us on a solid foundation by helping us identify our core values. For example, I love how she simplifies it to this statement: "making and selling my work will feel good as long as I ________" (work with environmentally conscious clients) Making money as a creator doesn't have to be far-fetched dream. If any of this resonates, her full class is avail on CreativeLive.com - Become a Working Artist. Enjoy! Today's episode is brought to you by CreativeLive.
