Listen "Genesis, Creation, Evolution and Science- FAQs"
Episode Synopsis
Matt Bownds and Professor Emyr Macdonald are asked some of the FAQs about the Biblical account of Creation.
Here are some of the questions asked in this podcast:
If someone said… “The Bible says God created the world in six days- that’s good enough for me, no need to look any further into it!” Would you persuade someone to reconsider that and look into it more? Why or why not?
How do you see science and Scripture overlapping or informing one another?
If someone said… “To even be talking about evolution is a compromise” would you agree or disagree? What happens if we don’t even engage/look at the evidence in this area?
If someone said… “We don’t need to believe in a literal Adam and Eve”, what would you say?
Is Genesis written as a scientific textbook?
Is Genesis written as a historical book?
What about the idea that the first chapter (or more) of Genesis are a myth?
Professor Mac’s practical principles on evolution
Why can’t we accept all of Darwinian evolutionary theory? Why do we pick and choose the bits we like?
Does the timeline of events really matter- is the earth very old or very young?
Does it matter if we believe they’re historical but that God made them by breathing his life into already-evolved / already existing hominid creatures?
So, what is the ultimate authority- Scripture or science? What if science “disproves” the Bible?
What are the similarities and differences between general revelation (the ‘book’ of creation) and special revelation (scripture)?
If someone was really interested in this topic, any places for them to do further reading or listening?
