The people grumble against Moses and Aaron. Joshua and Caleb urge the people to trust in the Lord and to take the land, but the people refuse. Moses appeals to God for mercy. The Lord declares that the Israelites will wander forty years in the wilderness and that those who are twenty years old and older will never enter the Land of Promise. Without the blessing of the Lord, the people attempt to enter the land and are defeated by the Amalekites and the Canaanites.
