Amendments to the English syllabus for the Leaving Certificate are currently being discussed with 2026 in mind for change.Among the changes set to take place are the removal of the two paper approached, being replaced with one paper worth 60%.Additionally, an oral worth 20% will ask students to verbally analyse a text and articulate their points clearly.This will be accompanied by a creative writing assignment also worth 20%.Both additional exams will be assessed in fifth year.Waterford teacher Katie Chance joined Ollie and Dymphna on air on The Big Breakfast Blaa.Dymphna raised the concerns that no exemptions will apply for students who are unable to speak in a group or verbally articulate themselves.Click on the full link to listen back in full.
