(2:10) Jake’s Aunt meets Arnold Schwartzanagger (2:55) 50 squats a day keeps Jake Berman away(3:10) Why Jake has this saying(3:30) Non-Traumatic pain is secondary weakness(5:29) Jake gets diagnosed with a herniated disk(6:15) “This is crazy” - Jake dealing w/ chronic back pain at 30, he couldn't drive for more than two hours w/o pain.(7:48) Jake is playing the best round of golf in his life, steps up to the tee box on hole 8 and as soon as he swung, he felt like someone shot him in the back. It literally buckled. The next morning he literally could not get out of bed(8:19) Jake rolled out of bed and it took him 2 hours to get off the ground!(9:16) It took him another two hours to begin to walk, this gave him a lot of sympathy(10:10) Made a vow that he was going to go into work on Monday and have his staff assess him and do an objective screen on him & tell him what his weaknesses are(10:37) The staff assessed Jake and found his left glute was weak and not firing at all!(12:15) Jake now enjoys leg day more than any other day because all this is in the back of his mind off(13:17) Arnold Schwartzanagger key number 5 is “Work Your Butt Off”, there is someone always trying to be better than you(14:53) The reason Jake hated leg day was because it was his WEAKNESS!(16:08) It was at least 6 months for Jake to have the confidence to do a weighted squat, didn’t squat more than 135 lbs but focused on perfecting form and increasing reps(16:40) 18 months after the injury, Jake could go into the gym and lift heavier weights with no flare ups(17:26) In the 4 years since, Jake has not had an episode with his back(18:12) The reason I wanted to talk about all this is because I was in the gym today doing deadlifts and today is the most he has deadlifted in the last 10 years with no back pain!(18:55) The older you get the weaker you get is what the general population accepts, but it doesn’t have to be this way, regardless of age(19:24) All secondary pain is related to weakness, it doesn’t matter how old you are and you have a position of relief. By position of relief Jake is referring to, is there a position you can get in where you are not in pain(20:21) If you can’t find a position of relief, that is a big problem. If you can find a position of relief you can fix your pain through PERFECT hard work.(21:02) That's where Berman PT comes in. Jake couldn’t do it himself, he had to have his staff say that he wasn’t in perfect alignment(21:53) Every single athlete has coaching, no matter the sport.(22:21) They need them there because we are talking about the difference of splitting hairs here and that’s what causes flare ups down the road.(22:38) Real life examples of things Jake has taken for granted(24:53) Every week Jake hears a story from skeptic that they can’t believe they are pain free(25:40) Jimmy’s story, his back pain was so bad, he literally couldn’t do anything. He couldn’t reach over to touch his knee caps and this is a very active guy(26:12) We worked with him for a year and he could start moving again, fast forward a year and a half later he was back to doing everything he wanted to do(26:56) One more example; Laurie, her story is similar to Jimmy’s.
