You can't take "being born again" as nothing more than a social statement, which unfortunately is what most people professing such are doing. Being born again means that you have become a member of Christ body and thereby Christ himself, and by becoming Christ you also become God. Having this knowledge is an important element that's needed for a believer to translate out of the natural world and into the Lord's eternal kingdom. It's up to each individual to climb up to the height of God that he has made available unto him that can believe.
