Listen "S2E15 | The Dogstrologer's Song"
Episode Synopsis
“What problems, what forces
Against us shall bide
While the stars in their courses
Do fight on our side?”
Adapted from Rudyard Kipling’s The Astrologer’s Song, this episode uses epic poetry to visit a dream state before Power Dog goes on to the next leg of his journey in our unfolding epic tale of tails for season two.
We strongly believe in the power of poetry! If you’d like to about why it is so important for students, then we highly recommend reading this article from Edutopia: https://www.edutopia.org/blog/five-reasons-poetry-needed-schools-elena-aguilar. Art is the crucial language of emotion, and poetry refines our language. Poetry is music, and poetry is therapy. Poetry is joy, and poetry can be a righteous rage. It can teach social-emotional learning and help us find better ways to understand ourselves and others.
If you love this episode, and it leaves you hungry for more great poetry for kids, we highly recommend checking out our friends and fellow Kids Listen member shows Buttons & Figs, Kids Poetry Club, and Mary Farfisa’s Outer Space Radio Theater- a musical story podcast with wonderful poetry and poetic language stitched into the music and dialog.
If you're completely new to our story, please go find episode 1, called "S1E1 | START HERE! | Power Dog Goes To College" as this is a serial story adventure that unfolds throughout each season.
Special thanks to Jason Roark, our creative partner and ultimate Renaissance Bunny Supreme! He records, edits, and designs this show. He also provides original music including our opening theme song, which is sung & performed by him and the wonderful, talented Jen Bernard. They are both poets!
Our song that plays at the end of this episode is a song we wrote along with Hank’s Granny & Gramps, aka Murphy & Marckx. It's called “Power Dog, He Won’t Give Up!” It started as poetry.
Colin Laurel illustrated our cover art, which was directed by Jen Wick. Creating it was visualizing poetry.
