I started playing hockey when I was 7 years old after watching an older boy in our church play, and immediately fell in love with the game. Up until just a few years ago, I played pick-up hockey weekly in the winter. I was never a great skater, but tried to make up for it with hustle. I worked hard at staying out of the “sin bin” (aka the penalty box) because I just wanted to play. I do vividly remember getting a penalty when my stick got caught in an opposing player’s skates. The words that came over the arena loud speaker, “C & G Realty Penalty to # 3, Jon Stairs, 2 minutes for tripping” still haunt me. I never wanted to trip somebody else. This Sunday we are going to talk about tripping people, but not on the ice. Do you know that our actions can trip people up spiritually?
