For most of us in the United States, it may be hard to fathom…but nearly 60 percent of the world’s population…about five billion people…wash their clothes by hand. The Washing Machine Project is trying to change that…with backing from the Whirlpool Foundation. They are building and providing hand operated Divya Washing Machines to those people and communities. “You put 20 to 25 pieces of clothes…so large capacities for larger families and three buckets of water and within about twenty minutes, your clothes are washed.”
