Listen "Secure delivery boxes for drones & more: DroneDek"
Episode Synopsis
Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. What will it take to create a better environment for drone and autonomous vehicle deliveries. A company called DroneDek is betting that its secure delivery boxes will be a big step forward. They will need electricity…similar to a lamp post….for connectivity and can be heated or cooled depending upon the type of goods being delivered. Founder Dan O’Toole says the plan is to use a subscription model…about 15 dollars a month for a DroneDek box…and about the potential, he says…
“91 percent of all items purchased today are 5 pounds or less, which makes them drone deliverable. Every day there’s over 100 million items bought online. When those items are conventionally delivered they cost about two dollars each. When those same items are delivered autonomously to a DroneDek, that number drops to less than a dollar.”
