Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.  I’m Fred Fishkin.   How do you come up with a smart design for a combination robotic vacuum and mop?  That was the issue tackled by iRobot…in designing the Roomba Combo J7+.  In moving from a mopping surface to carpeting…it doesn’t just lift the mopping pad a little bit….it actually lifts it up and over the vacuum.  Very clever…and of course iRobot has lots of other smarts built in.  Product Manager Ryan Stocking…
“Once it starts and goes out into its mission… it’s first going to go through a vacuum stage…it’s going to vacuum all of the carpeted surfaces.  Once it’s done that, it’ll transition to any hard floor spaces in a room.  It’s going to combo clean that, so it’s going to simultaneously vacuum and mop.”
