Listen "Are you using passkeys yet for online security?"
Episode Synopsis
Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. If you aren’t using passkeys for online security, it is worth investigating. They use encryption to create unique credentials for websites and apps. At the FIDO Alliance, Executive Director Andrew Shikiar tells us passkeys have lots of advantages and don’t rely on your memory…“Now the key is a passkey that sits on a user’s device. You unlock your passkey in the same way you unlock your device dozens of times each day. So oftentimes on your mobile phone that might be using a face scan or a fingerprint scan or a pin code. Your passkey then communicates, sends an encrypted message to the lock on the server that needs to match precisely. So unlike a password, your passkey can never be stolen, it can’t be faked, it can’t be duped, it can’t be guessed.”The technology is free to use…and can be very worthwhile. You can find us at Techstination.com. I’m Fred Fishkin.
