Listen "Getting Real With Computational Thinking"
Episode Synopsis
In this episode, MLTI (Maine Learning Technology Initiative) Ambassadors Chris Beckwith, AJ Rog, and Yuhong Sun continue the conversation around computational thinking, and its role in solving real world problems. They each talk about their own classroom experiences, suggestions for teachers to introduce the concept to their students, and why it can be a valuable tool in teaching problem-solving skills. Joshua Schmidt interviews Jeff Bailey, Computer Science teacher at Mount Valley High School in Rumford, Maine who shares how he’s used computational thinking to address real world problem solving in his classroom.
We’d also like to remind listeners about this year's MLTI Student Conferences. We will be hosting two student conferences again this year, one virtual and one in person. The virtual conference will be on March 7th and the in-person conference will be on May 23rd. You can go to our website at www.maine.gov/doe/learning/ltt/conference for more details. We would like to share an upcoming event dedicated to AI in Education. The “elevAtIon Summit” will be held on January 13th (that’s a Saturday) at South Portland High School. This event is co-sponsored by ACTEM and METDA. Amanda Fox, author of “The AI Classroom” will be the featured keynote speaker and attendees will get a complimentary copy of the book. Attendees can also be part of a book study on “The AI Classroom” that will be co-facilitated by Amanda and the MLTI Ambassadors. Spaces are limited to 150, so make sure you go to ACTEM.org and sign up if you would like to attend.
You can also contact the MLTI (Maine Learning Technology Initiative) and LTT (Learning Through Technology) teams at the Maine Department of Education by emailing us at: [email protected].
