Teacher Tales

Por: Kū-A-Kanaka
Aloha mai. Welcome to Teacher Tales, where we share inspiring stories of educators and their amazing journeys teaching in Hawaiʻi. Get ready to meet remarkable kumu and find out how they tackle the unique realities of teaching in Hawaiʻi. But be warned: these tales might ignite your own journey into education! Teacher Tales is a component of the Hoʻomohala ʻIke Kumu ʻĪnana or HIKI program, fiscally sponsored by Hoʻoulu Lāhui. HIKI was developed by Kū-A-Kanaka under the leadership of Dr. Kū Kahakalau, and introduces her Pedagogy of Aloha. This research-based pedagogy was designed to address existing educational disparities experienced by Native Hawaiian students. More specifically, HIKI aims to enhance the cultural competencies of teachers working with Native Hawaiian students, as well as recruit more teachers to engage in culture-based, place-based eduction. The educators featured in our podcasts teach across the Hawaiian islands and are all graduates of a 6-course asynchronous Pedagogy of Aloha series emphasizing Relations, Relevance, and Responsibility to achieve Rigor and Fun.Feeling inspired to learn more?
