This is the first episode of the TCD Neuroscience Society podcast series which is run by the President of the society, Jivesh Ramduny (@JRamduny), and the Vice-President (@KasiaPlesniar). Jiv is a PhD candidate in Psychology in the Imaging Mind Architecture Lab at Trinity College Dublin. Kat is an MSc Neuroscience student who is also based at TCD.In this episode, we welcome Dr Francesca Sibilia, who just started a Postdoctoral position at the University of Southern California, and Michael Connaughton, who is a PhD candidate in Psychiatry in the Whelan Lab at TCD to discuss some questions related to the application of a PhD programme in neuroscience and beyond.Questions: 1. How did we choose to pursue a PhD in our current discipline? 2. How to narrow down our research interest to one specific topic? 3. Which is more important? Finding the right supervisor or the right university. 4. How do we look for international funding? 5. Is it important to gain research experience prior to starting a PhD? 6.
