Listen "12. Kentucky Derby 150"

Episode Synopsis

The biggest horse race on the face of the Earth now enters it’s 150th year. Truly an American tradition like none other.

While there have been many household names that have begun their illustrious careers at the Louisville legend (Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Affirmed, American Pharoah, Justify) the longshots remain ingrained in the American psyche with the fascination and belief that all horse connections and people share, “Maybe I can win the big one. Perhaps today is my day in the sun!”

In May of 2009, Mine That Bird at odds of 50:1, won the race led by an unheralded group from New Mexico and a brilliant “rail-skimming” ride from Derby jockey legend Calvin Borel. At the time it was the second longest shot ever to win the race in 135 years.

Andy interviews Chip Woolley, trainer of Mine That Bird, on the Derby’s version of “Rocky.”

Jim “The Clown” Tully, famed horse racing handicapper, then joins the show to analyze the upcoming race and predict the winner of the 150th running of the Run for the Roses.
