I had the honour and pleasure to sit down and speak to photographer, Roberta Marroquin about how she got into photography, travelling, and her secret to sustaining her long career. Coming from Monterrey, Mexico, we discussed what it was like growing up in Mexico. We discussed her education and why photography was such a passion for her from an early age. Roberta discussed going to university and studying in England and France, of all places, to learn her trade. Roberta talked to me about graduating and making it into the field by freelancing at the beginning to build up a portfolio and moving across to New York in 2008 to pursue a one-year certificate programme at the International Center of Photography. Ever since then, she has lived in the city and lived her dream. We also spoke about the key to sustaining a long career as a photographer and where she sees the industry as it is today and its future. We spoke about some of her travelling assignments as she has travelled to places like Syria, China, Bhutan, Kenya, and Japan. We talked about The Snowman Trek she did in Bhutan and how that was one of the most challenging and most satisfying moments in her travelling and photography career. Roberta and I discussed what she does outside of her work and travel. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my talk with Roberta, and I look forward to seeing what else she has to offer in the world of photography.
