Listen "Take 1 with Bill Cameron (09-02-2023) - Expansion of Work Permits in Chicago and a New White Sox GM"
Episode Synopsis
It's Labor Day weekend and leading Chicago and Illinois politicians are united with business leaders in a common cause for a change. Both are calling on President Biden to expand work permits to include long-term immigrants and asylum seekers who do want to work. This past week, Mayor Brandon Johnson joined Senator Dick Durbin and Congressman Chuy Garcia to push for this at the American Business Immigration Coalition. The round-table with Ray Long, Greg Hinz, and Dave Stewart discussed the rare public comments from Chicago White Sox owner, Jerry Reinsdorf who announced his pick for the next General Manager of the team. Chris Getz was promoted to GM after 7 seasons heading minor-league operations and previous experience as a player with the Kansas City Royals. Following the announcement, Reinsdorf met with a few media members and commented about the team’s 2023 season., "It was absolutely the worst season I've ever been through. It was a nightmare," Reinsdorf said, according to a report on MLB.com. "It's still a nightmare. It's embarrassing. It's disgusting. All the bad words you can think of, is the way I feel about the 2023 season. It absolutely was just awful.” The panel follows up on last week’s conviction of Tim Mapes and explores a loophole that will allow him to collect on his nearly $150,000-a-year state government pension. Ray Long leads the answers to the question of, “Who is Steven Landek and why should we care?” after Governor J.B. Pritzker’s appointment of Landek, an ally of former House Speaker Mike Madigan, to the Illinois Finance Authority board. Dave Stewart comments on the pending clause for a “closed door” arbitration option for Chicago Police officers accused in misconduct which is included in the proposed CPD contract with the city.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
