What sort of king were the people of Israel waiting for? It is pretty safe to say that they wanted a king to save them from the Romans, a king who would restore the kingdom of Israel to its former glory. That's likely the king that they believed that they were cheering on as Jesus rode into Jerusalem.
However, Jesus came to be the king that humanity needed - a king who would humble himself and go to cross. Jesus rode into Jerusalem that Palm Sunday fully committed to what would happen that week.
He did that all FOR YOU - so that you would be saved!
