Whenever I think about garbage day, I think about that line from The Coasters song, Yakety Yak, "Take out the papers and the trash, Or you don't get no spendin' cash. If you don't scrub that kitchen floor, You ain't gonna rock and roll no more. Yakety yak (don't talk back)." While we remove trash from our homes, what about clearing out some of the spiritual clutter (trash) that has built up in our lives? Perhaps there’s a certain way of thinking, speaking, responding, coping or a certain sin that continues to trip us up. What would it mean to have a spiritual trash day and remove those things that seek to divide us?
