Today we are talking with Mark Hugentobler. For 23 years, he was a successful high school basketball coach. However, after a turn of events, he was “sentenced” by his school board to spearhead the prison education program in the State Prison in Gunnison Utah. Like most people, Mark assumed the inmates were incorrigible derelicts and that the prison system was making great efforts to help rehabilitate these individuals to get back on their feet and into society. Boy was he wrong, on both accounts.Join Mark and BJ today as they do a deep dive into what the correctional system is really like and how he empowered inmates to help themselves and make huge strides towards change and recovery. “I have always believed that people are inherently good, and if given opportunity and choice, at some point in their life when they come to themselves and realize that they’re on a bad path and there’s another way to live, they will choose the better way. I’ve seen that countless times.”
