India being the 2nd largest producer of fruits and vegetables, 40% of it is lost before it reaches the consumers. Greenpods use natural plant extracts to activate the inbuilt defense mechanism which slows down the ripening rate and minimizing microbial growth thus, extending the shelf life of fruits and vegetables. Deepak did Bachelors of Engineering(Agiculture) in Anna university, Guindy, then he moved to US to study his masters.Then he began his carreer as a food scientist in Happy Family Brands in US. He used to network different professors and people related to his industry, which got him lot of new connections and oppurtunities. When Deepak got to know about the food waste problem, he came back to India to solve it. Now Greenpods is working in a R&D phase to extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables in India.
