Listen "Bushranger Tales"
Episode Synopsis
How much do you know about our Aussie bushrangers and did you know there were female bushrangers? Ned Kelly's last stand at Glenrowan is probably the most well-known bushranger story but there are a lot more tales to tell, as host Andrew Daddo finds out from his guest Dr Kiera Lindsey, PHD, an award-winning 19th-century historian and History Advocate of South Australia. Dr Lindsey takes us on an incredible journey back in time, beginning with escaped convicts who had arrived during the British settlement of Australia back in 1788 and explaining how bush ranging started, how bushrangers became part of Australian folklore and why they are still talked about today, despite the fact they were, in most cases, dangerous criminals. Listen to some of the less well-known stories, including the bushranger who rode an ostrich! And of course, there's a quiz at the end of the episode to check you were paying attention! So listen extra hard. Ok, are you ready? Giddy up, let's go!
