Study of South African Higher Education
Por: Chris Kanyane
After years of marathon research, cross-continental analysis, and no less than a dozen visits to South Africa—where I facilitated focus groups, listened to students, spoke to unemployed graduates, and sat down with ordinary families from Limpopo to Cape Town—this report is finally complete. But before I take you into the heart of the story, I want to make one thing abundantly clear: South Africa made a grave mistake in scrapping the technikons. That single decision, in my view, drained the country of one of its greatest development levers. And as you’ll hear throughout this recorded report, the consequences have been far-reaching, both economically and socially. That being said, I now take you inside my studio, where I spent the entire Sunday—sunlight fading through the blinds, coffee cooling beside stacks of field notes—recording every word of this analysis for you. Not just as an academic, but as someone who believes deeply in the power of education to either build a nation—or betray it.Let’s begin.
