KEY TAKEAWAYS
I had to go through the dark days when nobody was supporting me but my Dad and my brothers. Now, friends are sharing the podcast with people I don’t even know and I’m getting support from people all around the world.
I’ve had an expert amount of training and I will not be beat as a competitor, it is my dream to conquer the Channel and swim it I shall, making it all the way to France despite the success of my last attempt of 16 out of 22 miles. With hindsight I could have planned or trained better, but I was still doing a lot of training. Whilst I kept swimming, if I’d been more prepared it wasn’t the best training because my body would have been in better shape and I’d have been more resilient to the health illnesses that I contracted.
The one thing I didn’t practice was speed. I was all about getting in and not stopping till I hit land. I swam for 11 hours 50 minutes before my arms stopped working completely, I started getting hypothermia signs and I retired. People have swum the channel in 11 hours 50, so if I was faster, just maybe… Maybe I should have been doing some time training, not that I could have found the time to do it because it’s not just 8 hours, it’s all the nutrition, warming up beforehand, cooling down afterwards and stretching, it’s at least 12-16 hours.
We’re so much better in collaboration than in competition. So many people have swum the channel. Call them, get some tips, get some help. Everything you need to prepare for has basically already been done. Make you plan, create your preparation schedule and share it with others, because sometimes we can’t see beyond or own perception. By adding their perception you’ll be adding a whole lot of value to your preparation plans and it’s going to assist you.
BEST MOMENTS‘I showed the non-believers that the impossible is possible.’‘Preparation is all important.’‘I was so disciplined, I didn’t let anything get in my way: Girls, friends, the ego tried to play tricks on me, but I never let it win once.’‘You can’t practise enough.’
ABOUT THE HOSTGavin Scott is a born entrepreneur with a passion for start up and scale up. He has over 20 years real estate experience in investment and development.Gavin says: Over the years I have discovered that mindset is everything. Now, that might sound obvious, but it is! You see the number of awoken minds are very few in reality. Whilst acknowledging mindset is key it is absolutely different from utilising, influencing, impacting and effecting great change, for yourself, your loved ones, friends, colleagues and the wider public. Why?Like most of us I have had many ups and downs. I want to share the lessons learnt and promote a better environment for all, internally and externally! How?Through sharing my own experiences and hosting some fabulous individuals including some big household names to discuss key topics around mindset and the success formulas I hope the listener will become inspired to create space for change for betterment in their lives. I aim to inspire change by encouragement, not by force. I intend to inspire by education, not by regulation.
