Doing It My Way

Listen "Doing It My Way"

Episode Synopsis

In this episode of the podcast Gavin talks about how ‘doing it your way’ applies most readily to swimming for him (especially in this case to do with his six-hour qualifying swim to be able to swim the English Channel), but that you could apply it to anything in your life.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
I’m in the qualifier, I’m breathing to the right for better stroke efficiency and to keep good contact with the skipper of the boat that will be following me on my swim. Within the first hour an old injury appears on the left-hand side – a torn/ruptured bicep tendon – and it starts to get more and more painful. But I kept breathing right because that was what was best for me. After I got home to Spain I kept breathing right but the injury is getting more and more prominent, it’s hurting quicker and quicker, I’m able to do less distance and endurance and it got to the point where I had no enjoyment in swimming any more.
It was all to do with mindset, I left my body behind and my body went swimming. One day I woke up and thought I can’t do this anymore because it’s not working. So I started breathing left and wow! I started swimming and believing and having the confidence that I could swim across the channel. What a complete difference.
If you’ve tried something one way and it’s really not working out, the smallest of tweaks – just the simplicity of which side to breathe on in this case – can get you such greater satisfaction and results.

BEST MOMENTS
‘I asked myself: “Why the heck are you doing this?”’
‘I don’t care what the coach says anymore, I’m going to breathe left. I cannot physically complete the challenge if I breathe right. It felt good to take the power back and move forwards instead of backwards.’
‘I didn’t fail at breathing right, I tried, I tested and I determined it was better to breathe left. The same can be said of any marketing strategy that a company goes to execute, you should be agile and flexible enough that you can pivot, turn and change.’

ABOUT THE HOST
Gavin Scott is a born entrepreneur with a passion for start up and scale up. He has over 20 years real estate experience in investment and development.
Gavin says: Over the years I have discovered that mindset is everything. Now, that might sound obvious, but it is! You see the number of awoken minds are very few in reality. Whilst acknowledging mindset is key it is absolutely different from utilising, influencing, impacting and effecting great change, for yourself, your loved ones, friends, colleagues and the wider public.
Why?
Like most of us I have had many ups and downs. I want to share the lessons learnt and promote a better environment for all, internally and externally!
How?
Through sharing my own experiences and hosting some fabulous individuals including some big household names to discuss key topics around mindset and the success formulas I hope the listener will become inspired to create space for change for betterment in their lives. I aim to inspire change by encouragement, not by force. I intend to inspire by education, not by regulation.
