KEY TAKEAWAYS
I went to do my six-hour qualifier for my cross-channel swim and the coach told me to breathe right because the pilot of the vessel escorting me will be on the left-hand side and it’s good to have connection with them. But it meant I kept over-steering right and hitting embankments and triggered an old bicep injury causing me to take time out. Each time I tried it wasn’t working, it was demoralising and I no longer enjoyed swimming.
We’re a few months down the line and I don’t think I’ve got anywhere close to the same confidence in my ability and technique. It’s really hard to build back my confidence.
Taking it away from swimming, I’m a bachelor. You meet a couple of really nice ladies, you have great interaction and communication and then you get ghosted. Prior to being ghosted your confidence is rising, you’re enjoying the process, the journey, you’ve had a couple of meetings and there’s some chemistry there and before you know it, like a lead balloon being dropped from the sky, you’ve been ghosted. What did I do? Why doesn’t that person have the courage or the decency to say: “I’m no longer feeling this connection, I no longer wish to continue.” Why do they just disappear off the Earth?
To create the space to build confidence, first you must have an awareness, understand the situation, understand your emotion, understand your reaction. Then, quite simply, every time there is an action, hurdle or challenge, don’t look to nudge the needle 10 yards, just look to nudge the needle a yard. Once you’ve nudged the needle a yard and you’ve recognised it, celebrate that and continue to build in that fashion. Small steps yield bigger results. Confidence is simply an emotion-building process or a consistent action building process.

BEST MOMENTS
‘Confidence is so hard to build yet so easy to lose.’
‘When I should be at the peak of my performance training, I’m doing maintenance. There’s only five weeks to go.’
‘What it takes – in relationship terms – not to lose your confidence is to ooze with self-love, self-appreciation. Even outside of relationships, that's a practice we should all be entering.’
‘If I allow my head to dip or my chin to tuck then I am creating the space for my confidence to reduce.’

ABOUT THE HOST
Gavin Scott is a born entrepreneur with a passion for start up and scale up. He has over 20 years real estate experience in investment and development.
Gavin says: Over the years I have discovered that mindset is everything. Now, that might sound obvious, but it is! You see the number of awoken minds are very few in reality. Whilst acknowledging mindset is key it is absolutely different from utilising, influencing, impacting and effecting great change, for yourself, your loved ones, friends, colleagues and the wider public.
Why?
Like most of us I have had many ups and downs. I want to share the lessons learnt and promote a better environment for all, internally and externally!
How?
Through sharing my own experiences and hosting some fabulous individuals including some big household names to discuss key topics around mindset and the success formulas I hope the listener will become inspired to create space for change for betterment in their lives. I aim to inspire change by encouragement, not by force. I intend to inspire by education, not by regulation.
