KEY TAKEAWAYS
My Dad had a knee replacement just over a year ago, he was getting through rehabilitation and he was playing golf when he got bit by a little flying creature. He got cellulitis – a bacterial infection of the skin cells. He went to the doctor who told him to put his foot up for six weeks as he had an ankle sprain. He didn’t ask to take my Dad’s sock off. A few days later my Dad collapsed at home and was taken to hospital, his leg the size of a balloon. For the last six months the cellulitis keeps coming back and he’s been on antibiotics the whole time. His quality of life has been vastly reduced.
After this we found he had an infection around his titanium knee replacement, possibly since I was put in. So, he had that taken out and had a temporary knee put in until they could find out what caused the infection and check for any extra infections in the body before putting a new titanium knee in.
I went to the GP because I’d had a runny nose for weeks, an ear ache and pressure like you wouldn’t believe between my ears. It was like a deep winter flu had hit, like I’d been hit by a bus. I decided not to finish the course of antibiotics I’d been prescribed and went to see an ENT specialist who changed the antibiotics for me. It got slightly better, but not really. So, I went back and had a scan of my sinuses taken and it revealed that there was nothing wrong with the sinuses. He said the pressure in my ear was Swimmer’s Ear, a standard ear infection and gave me antibiotic drops. It turned out to be a post-Covid migraine variant.
My coach says it’s 80% mental and 20% physical. If I hadn’t taken it upon myself to go to the ENT specialist, I wouldn’t have got myself to where I am today as quickly, I could have been weeks behind. I’m now getting back to full health and I can’t wait for the swimming challenge in 32 days time.

BEST MOMENTS
‘My Dad’s strong and a fighter and he’s in the best morale that I’ve seen him in in the past year.’
‘Nobody really bothered to check for secondary infections. Check yourself. Not everybody is going to have the wisdom to enquire if there’s a secondary infection.’
‘I’m stressed out because I’ve not been able to exercise to an endurance level, only to a sustained level. I’m undertaking an endurance challenge in 32 days’ time!’
‘Don’t question yourself, just check yourself.’

ABOUT THE HOST
Gavin Scott is a born entrepreneur with a passion for start up and scale up. He has over 20 years real estate experience in investment and development.
Gavin says: Over the years I have discovered that mindset is everything. Now, that might sound obvious, but it is! You see the number of awoken minds are very few in reality. Whilst acknowledging mindset is key it is absolutely different from utilising, influencing, impacting and effecting great change, for yourself, your loved ones, friends, colleagues and the wider public.
Why?
Like most of us I have had many ups and downs. I want to share the lessons learnt and promote a better environment for all, internally and externally!
How?
Through sharing my own experiences and hosting some fabulous individuals including some big household names to discuss key topics around mindset and the success formulas I hope the listener will become inspired to create space for change for betterment in their lives. I aim to inspire change by encouragement, not by force. I intend to inspire by education, not by regulation.
