Listen "Lovesac: Shawn Nelson"
Episode Synopsis
Thank you for tuning into "Starting Small", a podcast about brand development, entrepreneurship, and innovation in the modern world. In this episode I am joined by Shawn Nelson, Founder of Lovesac, a diverse furniture company, with their parent product... the Sac; a beanbag-like sac, filled with a proprietary blend of recycled foam remnants called Durafoam.
Growing up in Utah, Shawn was nurtured with a driven mindset, where he diversified in many areas. Shawn attended the University of Utah where he studied both music and Chinese. At 18 years old, Shawn conceptualized the idea of creating a giant sac that served a greater offering than the current average bean bag. After experimenting with a plethora of materials and fillings, Shawn's first prototype grew as a major enjoyment within his friends and beyond. Shawn has reached extensive success with his journey with Lovesac, along with winning $1,000,000 in Richard Branson's 2004 Rebel Billionaire. What started out as an experiment, later turned into Lovesac, a furniture company with over 70 locations, publicly listed on NASDAQ, and features an array of products from the initial Sac to a full Sactional (sectional couch).
