Episode Synopsis
A Rebellion of a different sorts, betrayals abound, Darth Vader on the hunt, The Nomad back in action, and more, all on the next Star Wars Beyond the Films. YOUR Star Wars discussion podcast! YOUR ticket to the EU!
This week true believers, Beyonders, Fanboys, Fangirls, respected aliens around the galaxy, The Defender of the EU; Mark Hurliman, and your EU Guru; Nathan P. Butler, sit down to discuss Star Wars: Rebellion: The Ahakista Gambit by Dark Horse Comics. Strap in and tighten your crash webbing Fandom, Star Wars Beyond the Films is setting off on another rapid-fire trip into the galaxy far, far away!
As is their norm, your hosts provide a SPOILER-FREE rundown of the arc. Just be sure to jump out at Tarkin’s Arrogance, their spoiler warning!
They discuss Dark Horse Comic’s need to add an editor’s box similar to Marvel’s Spider-Man series. There were plenty of missed opportunities in this arc. Many readers might not ever make the connections. Mark missed quite a few himself.
And they also discussed the covers near the end of the episode.
Issue 6
We see the continuation of the word bubble style previously seen in some of the Knights of the Old Republic line’s covers, and eventually all the Dark Horse Star Wars lines. As well as the bizarre new villain of our story.
Issue 7
Wait! Is that Padme? And Toto?! And phantom hands!
Issue 8
The same cover used for the Trade paperback as well as the Omnibus.
Issue 9This cover both hosts enjoyed, but as Nathan points out doesn’t make much sense with the word bubbles. And yet if you were to subtract that style; the image alone works perfectly. The image works better due to the fact that Bex is the one betraying the Empire in the story, and Tregor is attempting to stop her.
Issue 10While Mark enjoyed this one, Nathan didn’t find it as appealing but has legitimate reasons for feeling so.
So how did your hosts measure this addition to the Rebellion series? What new prizes do they have in store for you this week? To learn more you’ll have to listen to the whole episode!
Once again, your dynamic duo cover entirely too much Rebellion action in their ONE hour, but don’t worry, give it a go; you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you might even get a little education on the EU while you’re at it. But no matter how you slice it and dice it, you’ll be having another adventure Beyond the Films. So sit back, hang on, enjoy the show, and may the Force be with you!
