Listen "A Chip Off Toni Stone"
Episode Synopsis
On this episode, Stacy welcomes Maria Bartlow. Maria’s story of coming of age, going to college in Oakland and working with Huey Newton and the Black Panthers before marrying and starting her family is interesting and inspiring on it’s own. Maria was likely inspired in part by her aunt, Toni Stone. Recognized as the first woman to play professional baseball, she played in the previously all-male Negro Leagues. Toni’s family was honored by the San Francisco Giants in a pre-game ceremony at their 2021 Juneteenth home game; they also announced they would name a street after Stone as part of their Mission Walk project.
