Episode Synopsis "Episode 1: Don't Listen To The Joker"
Welcome to the Stacking The Deck podcast. A podcast created to help beginning teachers in Moore County Schools hosted by Rachel Andress and Rob Breyer. The premise of the podcast follows the lessons shared in the book “The Wild Card” written by Hope and Wade King. This episode focuses on Don't Listen to the Joker ( The Joker is the Internal dialogue of doubt, that voice inside your head that tells you nothing you do is good enough. We want to let Beginning Teachers know that it's OK to make mistakes. Rookie mistakes lead to growth and mastery. As you try out new strategies in the classroom, you'll have a few flops and blunders. It's inevitable. And of course, the Joker will try to use your misadventures against you. He'll call them failures because he is hoping to push you back into a fixed mindset. He wants you to fall so hard that you can no longer be creative and that you never get back up again. Today Rachel and I will be talking with Mrs Mariah Morris, the 2019-20 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Carolina Teacher of the Year and she shares her story about being a beginning teacher.
