Listen "Quest for Habits"
Episode Synopsis
Imagine you are on a fun quest through a vast forest, and your ultimate goal is to reach a magical castle filled with treasures of personal growth. This quest represents your journey of building habits. Chapter One: Choose Your Companions First, you need to pick up to three loyal companions to join you on this quest—these companions are the most important habits you want to build. Let's say you choose Sir Write-a-Lot, Lady Read-a-Ton, and Captain Flex-i-Size. Chapter Two: Discovering the Paths Each companion offers various paths to take through the forest. These paths are your alternatives for each habit. For example, Sir Write-a-Lot offers the paths of drafting new stories, editing your manuscripts, or jotting down daily memories. Captain Flex-i-Size has you covered with options like woodland jogs, mountain hikes, and clearing fallen logs (a.k.a., core exercises). Chapter Three: Four Levels of Challenge For each path, there are four levels of challenge: Show up, Easy, Medium, and Hard. The Show Up level is simply making an appearance—think of checking in at a campfire for warmth. The Easy level might involve a simpler task, like telling a short folk tale. Medium is a bit tougher, perhaps narrating a thrilling chapter. Hard means recounting the entire saga under the stars! Captain Flex-i-Size might have you lift a twig in the Show-Up challenge, a branch in the Easy, a log in the Medium, and an entire tree trunk in Hard (okay, maybe not a whole tree trunk). Chapter Four: Tracking Progress on Your Map Tracking your journey requires a magical map (or habit tracker). If you take a path and just show up, mark it with a red 'X'. If you complete the Easy challenge, add one dot under the 'X'. Two dots mean you've tackled the Medium level path, and three dots signal you conquered the Hard path. Chapter Five: Earning Your Knightly Scores The scoring system turns this quest into a thrilling game. Each level of challenge comes with points: Show-Up earns 1 point, Easy garners 2, Medium scores 3, and Hard nets you 4 points. Stay vigilant and show up every day for forty days, and you earn a special endurance bonus of 40 points! Chapter Six: Stefan’s Scroll A wise sage named Stefan Guise once embarked on a similar quest and detailed his adventures in a scroll known as 'Elastic Habits'. While The Squirrel Wrangler’s guide has a few customizations, the essence remains the same to help you have more fun on your journey. By making your habit-building process as engaging and flexible as this fun, forest quest, you’ll be less likely to stray from your path and more likely to reach that magical castle of personal growth and achievement.
