The Razorbacks have a large, passionate and loyal fan base and no competition in their immediate area. On the other, the Razorbacks are heading for their sixth losing season in 10 years. Excitement for football seems down compared to recent decades and in addition, there’s excitement and momentum around the basketball and baseball programs that could present a funding challenge.
The bottom line: Everything can be fixed with the right hire and great leadership. But how coveted is the job within the industry? But the right hire has been elusive so far as Arkansas has swung and missed with Rhett Lashlee and James Franklin. Candidates who might make sense: Pat Fitzgerald (formerly of Northwestern), Eric Morris (North Texas), Jeff Traylor (UTSA), Kane Wommack (Alabama defensive coordinator and a former Arkansas fullback from 2005-06 who attended high school in Fayetteville).
