WHY JESUS?

Listen "WHY JESUS?"

Episode Synopsis

Why Jesus? A question which at its very core is important to the human race. There is no doubt that a man named Jesus walked on this earth about 2000 years ago, historical evidence supports this case. The debate begins when Jesus’ full identity is discussed. Almost every major religion teaches that Jesus was a prophet or a good teacher, however the bible teaches that he was ultimately more than these. In this episode Onyi and Temi discuss Jesus’ identity by answering some out of the many questions people ask about him.Who is Jesus?-       Before his incarnation the bible teaches that he was called the “Word of God” (John 1:1). He is the only begotten Son of God that has always existed in love with both the Father and Holy Spirit (John 1:14). In his providence God has expressed his nature to us through his word and the bible teaches that the triune Godhead is comprised of God the father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit who have existed together in love even before the beginning of the world (Genesis 1:26). Jesus while on earth claimed to have the very nature as God which is why the chief priests wanted to kill him because they couldn’t understand how a mere man could ascribe to himself the same prerogative that is given to God (John 8:58, John 10:30) (Daniel 7:13 is a prophecy that Jesus confirms in Mark 14:61, hence why the chief priest tore his robe)How is Jesus different from other religious leaders?-       Amongst every other religious leader, Jesus is the only one that claims to have the power to save humanity from sin (John 14:6) and this was done by his death on the cross and his resurrection. It is on the evidence of this resurrection that the Christian faith is rooted (1 Corinthians 15:14). The only person that has the power to do this is God and it is clear that Jesus understood his identity from the claims he made about himself. The question then is, if Jesus fulfilled the claim he made about his resurrection shouldn’t we consider all the other claims he made about himself?
