Have you noticed that when pointing a finger to someone else, there are actually three fingers pointing back at yourself? G-d wants us to improve ourselves all the time, and one way of doing He assists us is by highlighting someone else's wrongdoing. It's not necessarily to sort them out, but rather for us to reflect on ourselves to see how we can improve. Balaam did not realise this when hitting his donkey as he was travelling to curse the nation.
